SMART ASSISTANCE FOR SAFETY AT SEA

THE PAIN

Human error is said to be accountable for the majority of accidents at sea. Navigators need to handle many – often inhomogenous – systems on a bridge. They need to attend to different alerts, compare various data, and finally put together their own picture of the situation around their vessel. In times of rapidly increasing sea traffic, this is certainly challenging – but is it already a risk? We believe that safety in navigation is a top priority – so we don’t want to find out!

THE VISION

Our Integrated Navigation System already features intelligent handling and evaluation of navigational data. We aim to develop an optional software function that continuously analyzes targets, routes and positions in order to improve situation awareness and support decision-making in critical traffic situations. Regardless of the experience of the navigator, our goal is to reduce the risk of errors on the bridge, the associated hassles and the consequences (costs, downtimes, reputation).

SOLUTION: ASSISTANCE SYSTEM SUPPORT

The system analyzes targets and provides alerts. Without further assistance, navigators need to assess the situation and make right decisions on their own. In the past, situations like this have caused numerous collisions or risky last minute maneuvers. To improve situational awareness, the Assistance System could be activated with a single softkey on ECDIS.

The Assistance System analyzes the situation, provides graphical indication about the COLREG situation and no-go areas and gives a recommendation. In integrated systems, the Assistance System can provide a similar overlay easy on Radar displays to ensure a fully consistent situational picture at any workstation at any time.

HOW ABOUT THESE BENEFITS?

Shipowners can do the upmost for safety and upgrade to a never-before-possible level of machine-based situation analysis and collision avoidance technology

Navigators can make right decision easier and earlier thanks to much improved situational picture in critical situations and before

The system provides scalable decision support measures, up to the possibility of automated evasive maneuvers in combination with track control.

Effective backup for (experienced / less experienced) navigators in stress situations

Easier handling (less steps and less time needed) of evasive action in real critical situations, in combination with Anschütz autopilot

System integrates and displays data even if installed (and connected) as a stand-alone unit

Based on the new intuitive ECDIS NX user interface, extremely easy to train

No further installations needed!

VALUE FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS

Small shipping companies operating with few own personnel only, or shipping companies with a demand for safety without compromise.

Superyachts, cruise liners, and ferries who committed to offer a maximum in safety and cruising comfort in line with efficient crew training.

Next generation naval vessels, including but not limited to unmanned vehicles, which shall innovate naval operations and add mission efficiency.
